Day 1 - 2.6.18
Day 2 - 2.6.18
For this expedition we decided to spend some time in a Hide, so we set out for Strumpshaw's Fen Hide, overlooking a large patch of Fen and looking westwards. Once again we set the challenge of recording 5 minutes of audio without any human-generated noise. This is truly an epic challenge and a really excellent attempt was made, particularly considering it was a hot summers day with very little obvious wildlife activity. The aim of this activity is to focus everyone onto the sound they generate, the influence of this sound, and to free them from it in order to tune into the sounds of their environment. As you can hear, it really is a very difficult thing to do.
After the very focused listening in the hide we trekked a route leading us back to to our planned lunch spot near the woods, listening and recording as we went. After re-fuelling on our picnic, we split into two groups with one group aiming to use Hydrophones in the ponds and waterways on the reserve and the second group heading into the woods. The hydrophone group were experimenting for only the second time with these underwater microphones so getting used to handling, casting and setting recording levels was needed.
